Save Planet EarthÂ
This planet is all we've got. She is the mother of all mothers and has nurtured us for centuries now - Our Mother Earth. For every gift of nature we got, we made sure that we consume it and offer nothing back. Now, we are distressed by the curse of humanity's fosterer. It's not a moment too soon to correct our errors and make amendsÂ
for saving our only abode.Â
Here are some issues we should address to control environmental degradation:-Â
--))) A World Full of Plastic - Everything ranging from water bottles to polythene bags is made up of thisÂ
non-biodegradable pollutant. According to plasticoceans.org, we're now producing about 300 million tons ofÂ
plastic every year, half of which is for single use.Â
Proper segregation and withdrawal of plastics, recycling and usage of cloth or paper bags instead of plastic bagsÂ
are a few measures that could help.Â
--))) Water Pollution - Watching the state of the water bodies in my country, India and many other countries, itÂ
would suffice to say that the stream of water flowing out of these lakes, rivers and oceans is downright filthy andÂ
cannot be put to any use directly.Â
Strict consequences for any resident or industry is spotted polluting a river or a stream by way of dischargingÂ
chemicals, defecation, etc are required.Â
--))) Garbage Control - Waste, waste and more waste! With the per-person waste production hitting it'sÂ
maximum as consumers are progressively buying more products in this globalised world, cleaning our cities is aÂ
huge responsibility now.Â
Litter collection vans in India promoting the Swacch Bharat Abhiyan have become a big hit among the public.Â
Other countries and less-taken-care-of regions in India should take cue from our prime minister and ensureÂ
cleanliness on the roads and streets. People should remain mindful and guarantee correct waste disposal.Â
--))) Greenhouse Gas Emissions - Carbon monoxide & dioxide, methane, ozone and chlorofluorocarbons are justÂ
among a few gases that have made breathing in fresh air, a distant dream for urban folks.Â
The height of the industrial chimneys must be such that the escaping gases do not reach the people. Regulation ofÂ
driving vehicles unnecessarily to nearby places to control the release of these noxious gases would help.Â
--))) Limited use of resources - We've come to use our natural resources as if they will never get depleted andÂ
have drifted off from our ancestral ways of sustainable development.
Running taps, ripped paper pages and electric gadgets left switched-on are common sights these days. Conserving these precious tokens of love from nature has become the need of the hour. As disastrous as our present conditions are, there is a hope for a better future, if we fix our flaws. I recently read an article about a type of unaffordable but efficient biodegradable plastic invented by an Indian-American girl. After bearing witness to rivers clogged and roads cluttered by plastics, I would say that I'd develop a form of plastic that is both economical and easily accessible if I got a superpower.
